Ph.D. in Economics, University of California, Berkeley, 1979. B.A. in Economics and Statistics and M.A. in Economics, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Melnick joined The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in 1998 and currently is Provost of IDC, member of the council of economic advisors at the Prime Minister Office and member of the advisory team to the treasury.
Prior to that he was Dean of the Lauder School of Government, Strategy and Diplomacy and professor at The Arison Business School. He also held teaching positions at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and visiting positions at Boston University and the University of California, Davis.
Melnick served as a senior economist at the research department of the Bank of Israel, during 1991-1998 he was deputy director of research. Published a variety of articles in professional journals in the areas of monetary economics, inflation, the Israeli economy and applied econometrics.
Melnick developed the State of the economy index for the Israeli economy; the index is published to the public, by IDC, on a monthly basis. His professional activities include chairman of the investment committee of Migdal insurance company in the past served as chairman of the investment committee Hamagen insurance company, economic consultant to Bank Leumi, member of the board of directors of Ofek securities and investment Ltd. and research associate of the Center for social policy studies research in Israel.
