The Middle East specialization introduces students to the Arab world – the many faces of the Arab World, the challenges it faces, the changes it is experiencing. The topics covered include: Islam as a religion and a political ideology; the new generation of leaders and the dilemmas they face; a society torn between tradition and modernity; and religion and nationality. Studies in this track cover the historical and contemporary Middle East from a variety of academic disciplines (mainly history, sociology and political science). The goal of this specialization is to provide students with the a deep understanding of the region and with the tools needed for sound research and analysis.
