Middle East

Dr. Guy Bechor, Director

The Middle East track introduces students to the Arab world – its challenges, the changes occurring in it and its many faces. The topics to be covered include: Islam as a religion and a political ideology; the new generation of leaders and the dilemmas they face; a society torn between tradition and modernity, threatened by both the information revolution (the internet and the computer) and by the ancient tradition that refuses to relinquish its hold; and religion and nationality. The goal of this track is to provide students with the basic concepts for understanding the changes occurring in our region, academic knowledge and orientation, as well as research and methods of thinking .
Studies in this track cover the contemporary Middle East from a variety of academic disciplines (mainly history, sociology and political science) and from a viewpoint that will provide students with a broad understanding of the region and the dilemmas that characterize it. No prerequisites are required to enroll in this track.
