The Institute for Policy and Strategy (IPS) at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy

The goal of IPS is to formulate policy recommendations on key national security issues, with an emphasis on strategy, foreign policy and international relations, regional processes and diplomatic agreements, intelligence and government, and trends in the Jewish world. As a policy-oriented institute, IPS provides a home to a wide variety of opinions and ideas. It usually adopts a multidisciplinary approach with an eye toward the future, and considers issues from all angles as well as how they fit into the big picture. IPS depends on the professional network of academics and government officials that it has developed in Israel and abroad. IPS convenes policy teams, organizes meetings of experts and hosts seminars and debates. The institute’s flagship project is the annual Herzliya Conference on the balance of Israel’s national strength and security.

Volunteering at IPS

IPS offers IDC Herzliya students – mainly third-year students in the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy – the opportunity to volunteer on the administrative staff of its annual Herzliya Conference and gain exposure to content and events that are a significant part of their studies. The Annual Herzliya Conference on the Balance of Israel's National Security

At this conference, which is convened by IPS, senior government officials from Israel and abroad gather to discuss key issues on Israel’s national agenda. The Israeli prime minister uses the conference as a platform to deliver the annual “Herzliya Address". The Herzliya Conference has become an important event on the diplomatic calendar. The recommendations presented at the conference influence decision makers and some are adopted by government ministries.
