The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya opens a new school of Economics

The Council for Higher Education this morning approved the opening of BA degree program in Economics at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya. In light of the high demand for Economics Studies, and in the spirit of IDC Herzliya, a unique curriculum was built in a thorough and comprehensive way, which relates to economic policy and critical developments affecting the economy in recent years. Along with a thorough study of economic theories, the program offers students practical tools for integration into the labor market at the end of their studies. Students who want to apply for the program will be required to meet rigorous academic demands alongside personal interviews, in order to prevent the phenomenon of dropping out after the first year that is widely spread in different economic programs in other academic institutions in Israel.

The program, which will open already in the next academic school year (2010-2011)* will last three years and will have world-renowned professors in the field of economy, as faculty. The Interdisciplinary Program will train the future economists and allow each student to choose at least one division in the following areas: law, communications, psychology, government, business administration or computer science. Open day for registration to the program will be held on 23 April 2010.

According to Professor Uriel Reichman, president and founder of IDC Herzliya, the opening of School of Economics is another step towards establishing IDC as Israel's leading academic institution in the fields of social sciences. IDC considers the combination of theory and practice as central objective, with the aim to improve Israel's ability to achieve its social and economic objectives. The new program will encourage research in different fields which will contribute to achieving these goals.
