Mila Finkelshtein, student at the Sammy Ofer School of Communications, and Uri Feldman, a student at Radzyner School of Law and at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, members of the IDC Club Debate, won first place in the Open Debate Championship that took place in Turkey over the past weekend, 5-6 August 2011. The team from IDC competed against hundreds of teams that arrived to Istanbul from academic institutions around the world.
The Open Debate Championship takes place in Istanbul for nearly a decade, a week prior to the world championship in Ireland. This is the first time the IDC Herzliya Debate club takes part in this competition.
World’s best Debate teams participated in the competition, which was judged by five leading, well known judges the field, including the current world champion. The IDC team finished the preliminary stage of the competition in second place, with equal points with the team in the first place, and finally won the overall final stage.
The IDC Debate Club, under the guidance of Uri Zakai, led throughout the competition, and in addition to winning in the final stage, Mila Finkelshtein was ranked fifth and Uri Feldman was ranked sixth in the overall rating of outstanding speakers of the competition.
